No matter how strong we
are, there are times when doubts, fears, and insecurities
creep upon us. Most of the time we are able to dispel
those doubts and continue on with our lives. When we can't, we
have to embark on a course of self-improvement.
There are a number of reasons as to why we lose
confidence in ourselves. There can be family and work
pressures. Chronic illnesses and weight
gain can contribute to our poor feelings about
ourselves. Sometimes we look in the mirror and wish we could
be someone else.
As we are walking down the street or sitting in
a restaurant, we fantasize about being someone else - the
well-dressed woman laughing at a friend's joke or the man in
the tailored suit surrounded by colleagues in their tailored
suits. What we don't realize is they may have their own
insecurities.
It is not easy coping with these feelings
alone. If you have friend you trust and can confide in, talk to them. You should
also listen to what they have to say. Ask your friend
questions and be prepared for an honest answer. Open your
heart and your mind. Constructive criticism can help you.
Self-improvement is becoming aware of your innermost
feelings and thoughts.
The key to self-improvement and building good
self-esteem is learning to love yourself. To be able to love
others, you must first love yourself. When you take the time to
understand yourself and then to improve yourself, you will
inspire others to do the same. Accept yourself as you are.
Don't compare yourself to others. With acceptance comes
happiness and contentment. Your new feelings of self-worth will
be reflected in your personal life and in your interactions
with your co-workers.
The journey to self-improvement is not easy.
You have to stop blaming yourself for not being what someone
else perceives you to be. We all have insecurities we must deal
with. When you stop and deal with them, you are on the road to
a more healthful and vibrant you.
